CPD Framework

One of UHR’s core objectives is to encourage and provide continuing professional development among all HR staff in its member organisations. Many of the events and programmes are offered free of charge, or significantly below cost, being subsidised by UHR and led by senior HR staff from within the membership.  We aim to offer high quality, tailored and relevant development to our membership.  Please contact the UHR CPD manager, Naomi Holloway at cpd@uhr.ac.uk if you would like further information.

Scope of CPD

UHR’s offering is designed to give development opportunities for all levels of the HR profession, As a guide to suitability the CIPD professional levels are used to help colleagues identify which events might be most appropriate to attend.

You are typically using your expertise to undertake tasks that deliver immediate and short-term value for your managers, colleagues or customers.

You are typically using your professional expertise to deliver short to medium-term value for organisations and the people in them.

You are typically using your professional expertise to deliver medium to long-term value for organisations and the people in them. Your work is likely to be operational in nature, with a strategic overview.

You are typically shifting collective mindsets to create organisations that value people and using your professional expertise to deliver long-term value for the profession. You work with a wide range of stakeholders to change and shape the way organisations think about their people, enhancing the collective well-being and success of organisations (and those who work for them).

Colleagues can find support in identifying their level on the CIPD web site

The new CIPD profession map focuses on the knowledge and behaviours that colleagues need to create value and make an impact at work and UHR works to ensure that our development programme supports this knowledge and behaviour approach. Further information about the new CIPD profession map can be found on the CIPD website.

National Development Events

Regional Development Events

Most development is delivered on a national basis however from time to time regions may collaborate on delivering a face to face event for their geographic area.

In addition the UHR team have developed UHR Connects. This is an annual series of regional, in-person, one-day development events that will enable HR staff at all levels* to connect face-to-face, at low cost and at a venue a little closer to home. Each day will include presentations from HE sector experts sharing best practice and relevant research topics, as well as insight from UHR colleagues, and lots of opportunities for networking and discussion.

All members are welcome to attend any of the events - you do not have to be based in that particular area. The events have been designed to reduce the need for accommodation, however if you require accommodation you will need to organise this yourself.

*All members are welcome to join this event but it may be helpful to know that the content and activities of the day are designed for established practitioners or mid-level managers. Although job titles vary greatly across the sector, this would typically include Senior Advisor/Officer, Business Partner or Head of Function.
