This practical half-day workshop offers participants opportunities for discussion and delves deeper into the four SWP phases* compared to the introductory workshops held earlier this year. You do not need to have attended any previous sessions to book on to this one.
Participants will gain access to tools, templates and worked examples of SWP case-study implementations, with an understanding of how these could be applied in their institution.
In a live project, there is often a ‘Phase 5’ covering associated requirements driven by the SWP work (e.g. retaining critical talent, leadership/management bench strength, HR contract/policy considerations). For workshops, these will generally be covered within Phase 4, as they are typically very institution‑specific.
Dean is an HR consultant and former sector HR Director with over 40 years’ senior HR experience across three sectors — higher education, financial services and the civil service. His work has focused on mergers, organisational design, productivity management, workforce planning, measurable culture change, and helping organisations navigate periods of strategic change with clear, affordable workforce plans.
In Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP), Dean has led and supported SWP projects across several HEIs, including institution‑wide modelling of future workforce demand, capability assessments, scenario planning, and the development of costed workforce plans. He has also designed and delivered multiple SWP briefings and CPD sessions for UHR, and been an invited SWP panelist at cross-sector events. Dean's approach is grounded in today’s HE sector realities and challenges; highly regulated, financially constrained, devolved structures, capability gaps, and the need to move from reactive workforce decisions to confident, informed, strategic workforce choices
