New UHR Mentoring Scheme launches

On behalf of the UHR Executive, we are delighted to launch UHR’s new Mentoring Scheme, open to all its professional members to further support individuals’ career aspirations and develop the sector’s current and future HR leaders.

For many years now, UHR has provided an informal mentoring service, focusing predominantly on supporting new HR Directors and those aspiring to key leadership roles in HR.  To enhance this service, and in response to members’ feedback, the Executive has recently reviewed and updated the UHR Mentoring Scheme to strengthen its impact and broaden its reach.  The changes include:

  •          Opening up the scheme to all HR professionals from HR Adviser to Director level
  •          Improving the Mentee-Mentor matching process
  •          Maintaining high quality, consistent standards by Mentors undergoing UHR training
  •          Preparing Mentees to ensure the most is gained from the mentoring experience
  •          Introducing an evaluation system to better monitor impact on career development

The mentoring service continues to be free to members, other than expenses such as travel, and to rely on volunteers from senior HR colleagues in the sector to offer their time to a mentee over a period which may last from around 6 to 18 months.



If you believe a mentoring relationship would be beneficial given your current career development plans, the first step will be to discuss those benefits with your line manager. 

If you then decide to make an application to be matched with an appropriate UHR Mentor complete the ’Mentee Profile Form’ and ask your line manager to complete the ‘Mentoring: Line Manager Support Form’.

Once completed, both forms should be sent to Lesley Broughton, UHR’s CPD Coordinator at

Based on your preferences, UHR will seek to match you with a Mentor who best suits your needs.  Prior to your first meeting, you will be encouraged to work through an online booklet designed to help you maximise the benefits from the mentoring relationship.

If a mentoring relationship is not right for you at this point in your career, then you may register at any point in the future.


We do hope that the UHR Mentoring Scheme will prove to be another useful development tool to help you achieve your career aspirations.
